José Moya: "Building Bridges" In His Community

On Saturday, May 18, 2019, Cristo Rey student Jose Moya, Class of '20, was the keynote speaker at an event for the Youth and Police Building Bridges program. For people that don’t know what this program is, it’s an initiative centered on the police department and local youth coming together. The march was designed to unite the youth of Washington Heights with the police from the 30-34 precinct. There were games, performances, and amazing food. Games included: soccer, football, volleyball, baseball, etc with the police officers. Furthermore, the youth led the resource fair to talk about different issues such as mental health and safe sex, etc. to a large crowd of people.

At the end of the event, Jose gave his speech, wanting to thank everyone for showing support to this event. One of the highlights that Jose said was that this program helped to build “connection between us and the police so that we can have a true conversation” and that he believes that “this initiative will inspire change for the years to come”.
